Children’s Book Week in May

Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of books for a week in May, and is the longest–running literacy initiative in the country, having started in 1919.

Children’s book illustrator Christian Robinson designed the official poster for the 98th Children’s Book Week in 2017, shown above.

Events take place all over the United States. You can check them out here.

You can also download the official Children’s Book Week Bookmark each year here. Shown below is the bookmark from 2013 by Grace Lin (author of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon).

And how fun is this? From the The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY), you can consult a Google Map of Outstanding International Books, for each year from 2012 onward, here.

Brian Selznick, creator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck – has created a poster to illustrate the idea that books can take you anywhere.

I am so behind in most everything in life right now, I had no idea. I’ll have to do some investigating.

Every year I commit to reading at least one “children’s” book. And I always enjoy the fulfillment of that commitment. Thank you for the reminder that it is now midway-2013, and so far I haven’t read one.

Wonderful post and very informative. I probably should know stuff like this but I don’t! Thanks for sharing.

  8. I need to get back to some kids and YA books more often!
