Surely we can’t let Sweden be more advanced than we are on such an important issue! We need a holiday for this in America as well! Well-known author Mark Kurlansky has a poem that expresses the American love for cinnamon buns:
Americans Have Cinnamon on Their Buns
by Mark Kurlansky
America is
a cinnamon coated land
O, I don’t know why it is
We put it on our buns
And sticky buns at that
We put it in our tea
and foam of Italian coffee
Cinnamon in apple pie.
makes it as American as.
A spiced land gone astray
the cinnamon promised land
spice drunk land of promise not kept
and little curls of foreign bark
Keep your hungry yearning to be free
We’ll take your bark to sprinkle on rice
mull wine and cider
and up your crepe suzette.
Democracy spiced with meanness
Our bark is better than our bite
equality for some and spice for all
and cinnamon on our buns
bark spiced land of plenty
where it can be truly said
that in cinnamon we trust”
Note: There are many, many recipes on the web for cinnamon buns, even if you qualify your google search by adding ooey and gooey! Some include videos to provide step-by-step guidance.
(My favorite is probably Goo Number Two)

So mouth-watering and I wish I can crave on one right now
Aha! The post that would oust Marisa de los Santos from her slot! These pictures are sinful!
In our Global society, I think its ok if we smear the lines between countries for this great day.
Now I’m hungry. Love the poem and I really love cinnamon buns, or cinnamon anything. Grew up on cinnamon toast using raisin bread. Yummmmmmm!
Cinnamon bun day? Oh, yes please! I love them when they are so gooey and moist that they get your fingers all sticky when you are eating them, and the more icing, the better!
Oh man, I just finished toast and let me tell you it doesn’t in any way compare to these yummy looking treats. I’m feeling a little discouraged now. Lol.
Gracious alive, these look good! The third pic is my favorite…I can almost feel that soft squishy bread in my mouth!
Now this is what I call a well deserved holiday. Let’s skip all those historical figures and events. Let’s celebrate our favorite food. I vote yes for sticky cinnamon buns.
This reminds me of Caite’s post last Saturday about the states that are arguing over who owns the whoopie pie.
Mmmmmmm…. It’s a good thing I just finished breakfast or I’d be hitting the bakery.
I think I NEED to go find a bun!
Why, oh why, aren’t we in Sweden celebrating this important holiday today?
I must be a good American then because I love sticky buns!
…
Oh. This is a great post. Poetry + baked goods = WIN in my book!!
That’s it … I’m moving to Sweden!!

Great poem, as well. Only you would find a holiday devoted to the cinnamon bun…very cool post.
Goo number two would be my choice, too! ARe you starting the petition?
I’ll take the first one with a cup of coffee please..
I love gooey cinnamon buns! Being vegan I thought I’d never have one again but a few years ago my husband found a most perfect vegan recipe on the web and he makes them from time to time. Wish I’d known Oct 4 was a “holiday.” I’d have asked him to make a batch to celebrate.
GOO IS GOOD! Love it. Can’t wait what you have in store for us for National Chocolate Day!
